An app to release God’s creative people with His Word
Le Fras Strydom shares how the new Word One to One app is designed to help Christians around the world share God’s Word with others.
“For the past year I have been reading through John with a young woman who lives in a trailer park and cares for her severely autistic son. She doesn’t get out much and we read once a week by phone. We are on the 10th book, and I was excited to see that you have started a series in the book of Acts.”
The best part of my job is hearing stories of people coming to love and trust the Lord Jesus Christ.
The second-best part of my job is hearing stories of the creativity of God’s people in sharing His Word!
Once the penny drops that many around us realise that they don’t have the answers they are craving, and we take that step of faith to share God’s Word and see its power to show people the glory of Christ (sometimes in dramatic ways, sometimes over a period of time)…
… the hang-ups we used to have becomes unimportant, and we learn to simply find ways to help our friends get into the Word!
Here are just a few stories that come to mind:
A son sitting in the car reading the books with his dad after their weekly round of golf, because for the dad, the ‘side-by-side’ experience was less intimidating.
A daughter reading with her mum online during the pandemic – in a different continent!
A neighbour reading through the garden fence!
A Kenyan missionary translating the notes into a local dialect to share with construction workers in their lunch break.
Creativity and integrity
Rico Tice, our friend at Christianity Explored, always encourages us to keep three things in mind, from 2 Corinthians 4:4-6:
God’s Sovereignty – we’re praying God will open blind eyes.
Gospel Integrity – we don’t twist the message; we speak the truth as it was given.
Our creativity – becoming all things to all people to win as many as possible
This is why me and my colleagues are honestly just delighted to be launching the mobile app! This app puts another powerful tool into the hands of our brothers and sisters, to help them find a way to introduce their friends to Jesus through His Word.
International reach
With smartphone use in the majority world at record highs, our prayer is that this trusted experience will enable such creativity far beyond where the books and even online screen sharing could reach!
With a bit of further development the new Content Management System which powers the app will also make it much easier to collaborate on translations, allowing us to easily partner with like-minded people and ministries to provide the experience in their heart language.
Audience reach
Finally, with the ability to carry The Word One to One on our devices, we are hopeful this will empower a younger audience too and give them the opportunity to share God’s Word where they are.
